“Be faithful to your own taste, because nothing you really like is ever out of style.” – Billy Baldwin

As the year draws to a close, it’s time to look back at the interior design trends, both old and new, that have made a statement in 2022. The versatility of certain features or materials have boosted their popularity across different interior design styles. We have handpicked 5 interior design trends of 2022 that have made a splash in the interior scene.

Curves and Arches

A trend that resurfaced a few years back, curves and arches are interior design features that are still maintaining their popularity this year. From arched doorways to curved sofas, the lack of hard edges and corners help to soften the overall interior, making the space feel inviting and cosy.

While arches are often associated with the Farmhouse or Classical interior style, and more recently the Bohemian style, the use of such organic shapes can enhance other interior sty les as well. In this Modern Luxury themed maisonette, curves were incorporated into the built-in shelves and island, bringing dimension into an interior dominated by clean lines.

Warm Wood Tones

Wood with warm undertones will lean towards yellow or red. Along with the rise in popularity of interior design styles like Japandi, Bohemian and Farmhouse, warm wood tones are now often included as a running theme through a home. In this home, maple wood toned furniture pairs perfectly with the white walls and cool tone vinyl flooring.

Keeping a single wood tone amidst other muted or earthy colours can create a consistent interior design theme. However, you can experiment with varied wood tones as well to give the home a little more vibrancy and personality. The woody theme can be extended to unlikely places like the bathroom as well. Against white or muted tiles, warm wood stands out, acting as a feature wall to break the monotony in the bathroom.

Leather Textures

Some may argue that leather has long gone out of style, but as a versatile and durable material for furniture pieces, leather textures have remained very much an interior design trend. In particular, leather sofas are often a living room staple, pairing well with both traditional and modern interior design styles.

While colours like caramel, tan and cognac are popular among the masses, bolder colours are sometimes chosen to bring points of visual interest into the home. This apartment decked out in a mostly monochromatic colour palette has a splash of rouge red as its centrepiece, a nod to the air of luxury that fills the home.

Wallpapers

Wallpapers are a big interior design trend in 2022, and are likely to stay in trend in the upcoming year too. With a vast variety of colours, patterns and designs, there is one for every interior design theme.

Classic floral and trompe l’oeil designs are still used today, but many have gravitated to more contemporary or modern designs, such as geometric patterns or tropical themes. If wallpaper designs offered to the masses do not appeal to you, you can also customise your very own wallpaper for that unique touch.

Statement Lighting

Light fixtures can make or break how a space looks, not just with the colour tone and brightness of the lights, but also with how the light fixture fits in an overall interior. Statement lighting in a home is a light fixture or accessory that takes centrestage, emanating a unique character or style that tends to reflect the homeowner’s personality.

Of course more inconspicuous light options like cove lighting are still popular, but homeowners have increasingly shifted towards incorporating one-of-a-kind pieces into their homes. From chandeliers to quirky pendant lights, statement light fixtures are a common sight in the communal area. Aside from pendant lights, standing lamps or table lamps can make a statement too.
