A Transitional Style Family Home With Elegant French Influences

From compelling shapes to textures, the Contemporary French interior design of this abode strikes a captivating balance between the hard and soft. Complemented by a multitude of colours, the ambience of this home is filled with a phenomenal sense of serenity and refined living. Embodying the essence of French interiors, wainscoting, cornices and sconce lights serve as functional and decorative statement features in the communal area. An abundance of natural light pours into the entirety of the living room, radiating a soothing harmony of colours that complements the cosy furnishings. An arch feature wall paired with curated artsy collectibles breaks the monotony of the pristine white walls, adding depth and dimension. Embracing a history of cultural arts, a display of chinoiserie wallpaper injects colour and a vibrant character to the space. A striking combination of blue and white kitchen cabinetry creates an alluring juxtaposition, while monochrome floor tiles section the space from the rest of the communal area. Varying patterns such as feather and scalloped shaped tiles of the bathrooms showcase a distinctive yet multi-dimensional appearance while keeping them bright and airy. Leading into the master bedroom, an eclectic composition of warm and light colours translates into an eccentric dynamic that exudes a vivacious aura.

Interior Designer’s Thoughts

The homeowners requested a Contemporary style with a mix of French design elements for their home. Incorporating storage solutions that blend seamlessly into the design was a major factor in the brief. To fully maximise the abundance of daylight from the balcony area, the interior designer suggested hacking down the original kitchen walls to allow daylight to enter. The open plan concept of the kitchen and dining area encourages ease of interaction across spaces. Incorporating wainscoting, cornices and sconce light fixtures introduces classic elements of French design. The original parquet flooring of the bedrooms not only adds warmth but also retains an old charm to the space. A full height dresser was integrated alongside the bed head feature to provide practical storage while concealing clutter.
