This 5RM HDB has been home to three generations — a couple, their two children, and parents — long before the renovation began. Rather than starting from scratch, the home builds on its existing foundation — with more light, storage and a calmer visual flow layered over the original grey flooring.
A soft white and light grey palette was used for the walls and carpentry to lift and brighten the space. Storage runs continuously from the entryway through to the dining area, with space for daily necessities and a dedicated study spot built into the flow. Fully enclosed cabinetry keeps visual clutter out of sight, allowing the family to live comfortably without the pressure of keeping things on display. Minimal black accents quietly anchor the space, keeping the overall look modern yet gentle.
Our interior designer approached the renovation by working around what the homeowners were already used to. They were keen to keep their original flooring, so the rest of the palette was kept light and consistent to help the space feel brighter and more open. Long runs of storage were finished with recessed handles, allowing them to blend seamlessly into the background rather than stand out.
Linear lighting and clean lines give the home its modern feel, but the space needed a softer touch. Curves were added in key areas, including the rounded TV feature wall and the reworked arch leading to the indoor balcony, now updated with integrated lighting. In the kitchen, an awkward corner was transformed into a dedicated dry pantry, and the washing machine was raised for easier everyday use. These small adjustments were guided by how the family moves through the home, helping the space feel comfortable, forgiving, and easy to live in.
